GIW Industries, a manufacturer of heavy-duty dredge pumps has ordered two powerful submersible motors from Bakker Sliedrecht. The submersible motors are destined for a new hopper dredger that is being built at Wenchong Shipyard in China for the Chang Jiang Waterway Bureau (CWB). The large hopper dredger will work on dredging projects along the Yangtze River, the longest river in Asia.
The order consists of two oil-filled submersible motors including a control system that communicates directly with the frequency converter and pump. Bakker Sliedrecht will also supply the pressure compensation system, a vital part of this critical equipment.
The submersible motors are to be installed in the suction tubes of the new hopper dredger. Bakker Sliedrecht will be responsible for the FAT tests, supervise the installation of the submersible motors on site, commission the equipment and participate in the sea trials. We will also have an advisory role for the routing of the high voltage cables. The submersible motors are going to be coupled directly to the pump to eliminate the need of a gearbox. Particulars of the submersible motors are:
Bakker Sliedrecht will act as the linking pin between approximately ten companies that will be working on the suction tubes. Experts of Bakker Sliedrecht will be available at all times to assist with any challenges that may occur during the project. Moreover, Bakker Sliedrecht will make sure that EMC issues are being prevented by keeping a close eye on the entire suction tube project.
Jonathan Samuel, Vice President Sales & Marketing at GIW Industries: “Our experience with Bakker Sliedrecht, gained during earlier projects in the Chinese dredging market, strengthens our confidence in a great project execution. It is very pleasant to work with a company that has broad experience with submersible motors and has knowledge of the electrical challenges that you come across when building new suction tubes.”
