Innovations in sustainability and digitalization are succeeding faster, but the average operational lifespan of existing ships remains about 30 years. That is why the flexibility of new (sustainable) technologies during the ships' total lifespan is crucial. The ever-changing technology landscape allows the continuous application of new and improved types of energy generation or storage during the lifetime of a ship. Bakker Sliedrecht develops, supplies, and integrates various hybrid solutions in terms of modular energy use and automation.
One of these developments is the transition from AC to DC. Conventional electrical installations and equipment of ships operate on alternating current (AC). With the application of a (sub-) DC grid, the energy distribution between storage medium and consumers can be arranged more efficiently. This is especially functional to new energy carriers such as methanol or hydrogen. Besides the fact that there is less power loss with the DC grid, the inverter only needs to convert the electricity once to AC for consumers, such as machines and appliances. This design enables better safety, efficiency, and reliability.
To meet the constantly required flexibility of the power plant, Bakker Sliedrecht has developed an innovative and flexible hybrid solution called the Energy Storage Solution. This solution offers the possibility to use sustainable energy carriers and generators in an interchangeable and modular way. This solution, packaged in a 20-40 ft container, is directly connected to the on board energy network. This container can then be connected to all types of energy storage and generation available on the market, such as batteries, LNG generators, or super caps.
Bakker Sliedrecht highly values the benefits of innovation. We are constantly developing technologies and applications to solve the challenges for tomorrow's fleet. We now have the opportunity to demonstrate a selection of our latest innovations in our new Bakker Experience Center.
We continuously update the Bakker Experience Center with new solutions. We will clarify, demonstrate and let you experience every solution in person. We currently offer three separate Experiences, namely Remote Service with Augmented Reality glasses, Common Diesel Generator protection system and the Energy Storage Solution. The Experiences will be held in a small group so that the technology, its application, and your unique challenges are addressed during the visit.
