The maritime industry is facing an immense transition. The UN's International Maritime Organization (IMO) has set a target of reducing emissions by 70% by 2050 compared to 2008. At the same time, the digital revolution enables us to implement far-reaching operational improvements in efficiency, cost reduction, and environmental performance.
Bakker Sliedrecht helps shipbuilders and owners with both issues through sustainable technologies in the field of alternative energy carriers and fuels, modular design, digital monitoring, and maintenance. Together we prepare the current fleet for the future!
The challenge of reducing emissions is an enormous assignment that requires smart engineering, mainly in the electro-technical domain. Bakker Sliedrecht is specialized in these kinds of specific e-questions. Every day, our engineers design smart electrical generation, distribution, storage, and control solutions. Besides our focus on sustainability, we do not lose sight of the power plant's required reliability, safety, performance, and efficiency.
One of the technical solutions that can contribute to the sustainability objective is shore-side electricity from wind energy on land or at sea. By connecting to shore power, the vessels can turn off their diesel generators, significantly reducing noise and the emission of CO2, nitrogen, sulfur dioxide, and particulate matter. Bakker Sliedrecht recently converted the electrical infrastructure of the crane vessels Sleipnir and Thialf of Heerema.
Innovations in sustainability and digitalization are succeeding at an ever faster pace, but the average operational lifespan of existing ships remains about 30 years. That is why the flexibility of new (sustainable) technologies during the ships' total lifespan is crucial. Bakker Sliedrecht has developed a smart and flexible hybrid solution called the Energy Storage Solution. This solution offers the possibility to use sustainable energy carriers and generators in an exchangeable and modular way.
The digital revolution and emerging technologies from 'Industry 4.0' play an essential role in this transition to make the fleet more sustainable while increasing efficiency and profitability. In particular, smart data usage is a key asset to achieving this objective. Digitalization can increase efficiency in all digital information processes during the design, engineering, operational, and service and maintenance phases. To set this up properly, optimal synergy and cooperation between all parties involved within the life cycle are essential. Bakker Sliedrecht meets this challenge head-on and develops solutions to enable co-creation through digitalization.
Our experienced engineers thrive best on complex automation, electrical installations, and system integration issues. That is why Bakker Sliedrecht prefers to be involved from the concept phase onwards. From AC/DC combination systems and high power applications to a modular hybrid energy solution and remote service technology. Bakker Sliedrecht has a broad and deep in-house expertise in various disciplines. In addition, we closely follow all (electro) technical developments to design optimal solutions for our customers.
Bakker Sliedrecht highly values the benefits of innovation. We are constantly developing technologies and applications to solve the challenges for tomorrow's fleet. We now have the opportunity to demonstrate a selection of our latest innovations in our new Bakker Experience Center.
We continuously update the Bakker Experience Center with new solutions. We will clarify, demonstrate and let you experience every solution in person. We currently offer three separate Experiences, namely Remote Service with Augmented Reality glasses, Common Diesel Generator protection system and the Energy Storage Solution. The Experiences will be held in a small group so that the technology, its application, and your unique challenges are addressed during the visit.
